about

"The final work of art that I will release at the end of the decade is the 1st work of art that I made in the beginning of the decade. 𝒜𝒩𝒯𝐻𝑅𝒪𝒫𝒪𝐿𝒪𝒢𝒴 is a 2 1/2 hour compilation of 25 tracks that were originally released on SoundCloud from 2012-2013. After decades of making music that was unlistenable (my 1st album was a cassette I made at age 8) my first real breakthrough was made after I opened up a SoundCloud account. It was the first time I shared my music publicly in years. Having immediate interaction with other people was very encouraging. I couldn't believe people would actually take the time to listen to my music. It helped break down the barriers of my own self doubt and fears of public perception. SoundCloud was like this feedback loop, where I was making music with an awareness that it would be uploaded, and that it would prompt some immediate reaction, and I could analyze the parts that people liked or didn't react to, then make improvements for the next upload. The early 2010's was a special time to be on SoundCloud. It was my first real experience with networking with artists I looked up to and admired. I had the opportunity to make friends with other online artists. Many of those artists are still active to this day. There was a real sense of community in those days on the internet, and I learned much from interacting with artists and asking questions and learning how all of this works...

These tracks are a document of the beginning of my wild, artistic odyssey. There is an amateurish spirit to these early recordings: the mixes sometimes are oversaturated, loops go on for an eternity, knobs were twisted and buttons randomly pushed in hope for the ethereal happy accident. Although I didn't know exactly what i was doing, the spirit of exploration is present, and you can hear a sound being developed. The drones of "DARPA RUNNERS""would later be more refined in the 4 hour "Silver♂♀Babies" album, the eternal arpeggios of "NITE DRONES" and "SPORE" that would posterize on the "YOGA" album, and the textured drum machine experiments of "SILK ROAD", "MOON GLYPH" and "SOFTWARE" would evolve and find their ways in the vaporwave destructionist albums "℘ ◌ ṧ⊥➸℘♄ø⊥☮﹩ℌø℘" and "V O L U M Ξ T R I X X". I would continue the DIY▲PYЯΛMID moniker and develop the sound until 2015, eventually abandoning music as my primary art form, deciding that it was best to primarily devote my time and efforts to the visual arts. DIY▲PYЯΛMID went further than I thought I could take it. I remember my first big achievement as an artist was to have one of my albums included in a Fader article that was a feature about Vaporware labels. It may not seem like much, but It seemed impossible to me that the music I was making could belong anywhere in Fader, even if it was only two sentences long. It all began here with these early raw, primal Soundcloud experiments.“
